Multi-country
eSIM plans by region
A regional plan covers many countries on one eSIM. That is worth paying for on a multi-country trip and rarely worth it on a single-country one, because the same money usually buys more data locally.
Pick a region
Nine regions, priced by the gigabyte
Each card shows the cheapest gigabyte anywhere in that region and the three markets it comes from. The grade chip is the price band.
At a glance
Every region, cheapest first
The same nine regions as a table, ordered by the lowest gigabyte we could buy. Typical is what a middle-of-the-road plan costs there.
Lowest per GB is the cheapest gigabyte available anywhere in the region, from a plan with a stated allowance. Unlimited and pay-per-GB plans have no meaningful per-gigabyte price and are excluded from both figures. Typical is the median across the region's own plans, not an average of its countries.
Which one
Regional pack, or one plan per country?
There is no universal answer. It turns on how many borders you cross and how much data you actually use.
When you are crossing borders
One install, one balance, no fiddling at every airport. You pay a premium per gigabyte for that convenience, and on a multi-country trip it is usually worth it.
- Three or more countries in one trip
- Short stops where a local plan would expire unused
- Island hopping, where each market has one host network
- You value not thinking about it more than the last few dollars
When you are staying put
A single-country plan is almost always cheaper per gigabyte, sometimes by half. If you are in one place for a week, the regional pack is a convenience fee with nothing to show for it.
- One country, or two in the same cheap market
- Longer stays where the allowance actually gets used
- Heavy data use, where the per gigabyte gap compounds
- Markets with ten or more providers competing
