What to know about Germany
Germany lists 1,426 plans from 10 providers at a median of 1.00 USD per gigabyte, with the best available at 0.15 and allowances averaging around 18.7 GB — the largest in this list.
Around a third advertise 5G, which understates what German networks actually carry and reflects how conservatively resellers describe their coverage. Hotspot is permitted on 93%, and 24 unlimited plans are listed, the fewest among the western European markets we track.
Because Germany is included in essentially every Europe-wide bundle, its price profile is nearly identical to Austria, Italy and Portugal. The choice that matters is not which German plan but whether you need a German plan at all — if your trip crosses into neighbouring countries, the regional option is usually the better buy.

Match the allowance to the trip, not the price
The average plan sold here is 37.4 GB over 30 days. Buying the cheapest plan and topping up twice usually costs more than buying the right size once — check whether the plan supports top-up before relying on it.
Treat "unlimited" as a threshold
155 plans here are sold as unlimited. Almost all mean full speed up to a fair-use threshold and throttling after it. Compare those on price per day; a price per gigabyte for an unlimited plan is a number with no denominator.
Check the network, not the brand
61% of plans here advertise 5G, but the network belongs to a local host operator. The provider table below shows which operators each reseller actually rides — that is what decides coverage once you leave the city.
Know when the clock starts
Some plans start counting at purchase, some on install, some on first connection at the destination. A seven-day plan bought three days early is a four-day plan if it starts at purchase. Where a provider does not publish the trigger, we mark it unknown rather than guess.

How to install
Most phones released since 2019 do. Dial *#06# — if an EID number appears alongside the IMEI, the handset has an eSIM. A carrier-locked phone may still refuse a second profile.
Buy while you still have reliable internet. Whether to install immediately depends on when the plan's clock starts — check the activation trigger on the plan you chose.
The provider emails a QR code. On iOS: Settings → Mobile Service → Add eSIM. On Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add. Keep the code; some providers let you reinstall with it, others do not.
This is the step people miss. A travel eSIM is technically roaming on a host network, so data roaming must be enabled for that line — and turned off for your home line, unless you want a bill.

The default order is a published formula: value percentile, feature completeness, data freshness, provider accuracy, coverage fit, first-party ratings and promo availability. Commission weight is zero, and no payout data reaches the ranking code at all.
Refresh
Prices are re-read continuously and this page was last recomputed on 27 August 2026. A sync whose numbers move implausibly is rejected rather than published.

What does "unlimited" actually mean on these plans?
Almost always a fair-use threshold followed by throttling, not uncapped data. 155 plans here are marketed as unlimited. We show a price per gigabyte for those only where the provider publishes the full-speed threshold, and we exclude every unlimited plan from the median — a throttling threshold is not an allowance, and mixing the two distorts what a gigabyte appears to cost.
